Akin spent seventeen years in the Pharmaceutical Industry working with companies like GSK, Pfiz er, Bristol Myers - Squibb, Boehringer Ingelheim and Novartis in sales, management and marketing.
Recent success is evident in the key role played in the transitioning of the UK National Health Service (NHS) 2006 public sector procurement/ logistics and di stribution to a more efficient commercial, outsourced entity. Subsequent taking the lead role in the redesign of supply chain for NHS London on behalf of DHL, in this most political of public/private partnership arrangements. Responsible for overseeing th e demand drive in the six Regional Distribution Centers serving the 74 Hospitals and 31 Primary Care Trusts for which I was responsible.
Akin led the introduction ‘off site consolidation/ on site auto replenishment project using medical cabinets in Londo n's foremost teaching hospitals.
Liaising with Distribution Centre Managers, Procurement and Commercial Directors of Hospitals, Internal Contracting teams, marketing departments and political leads within governmental procurement sector, Akin served as DHL Representative on the London Procurement Programme (LPP) Operating Board; the £1bn procurement body for NHS London and constituting the Commercial Directors of London's teaching hospitals and government buying groups.
2008 saw the commencement of the DHL Express’ cold chain planning programme across the Middle East and North Africa and Turkey, to effect structural change in the Healthcare network for DHL Express, was another key challenge undertaken and in which Akin ha d a lead role.
As a cross functional team player, Akin played a supporting role in the cross business unit DHL team set up to review the national healthcare supply chain processes for a major GCC country. Presented and co - coordinating activities to hel p set up the health care supply chain for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia bringing in specialist teams from the UK, Germany and the UAE to the cross Ministerial Board constituted by the King.
Most recently as EGH Private Equity Supply Chain Director for SSA , Akin led the logistics pitch for a government to deliver housing infrastructure in Lagos Nigeria , which required significant supply chain solution pre - design as a key part of the pitch and project deivery plan. Akin worked with a world class consortium including companies such as MACE, CAP GEMINI, ARUP, PARSONS, TERRY FARREL & CO and GALADARI & ASSOCIATES, HABTOOR TRADING ENTERPRISES to build 10,000 affordable homes.
